Wondering how you can support the existing out of hours primary care service in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Powys? We are always looking for new members to join our GP membership for either - or a combination of - the following:
- Face to face base shifts including home visits, with a driver (at one of our 8 Shropdoc bases)
- Triage shifts (from our headquarters at Longbow, in Shrewsbury)

If you’re out at base, you will be supported by our experienced and knowledgeable drivers and when triaging from Longbow, you’ll be supported by one of our Shift Leaders and be working with other clinical colleagues. We offer Triage Training and regular group training sessions with fellow clinicians to provide insight into real cases out of hours and encourage a learning a reflective atmosphere.
We also have opportunities available in our other work streams, such as the AVS service currently based in Staffordshire.
The Acute Visiting Service (AVS) is designed to provide a timely response for patients requiring a home visit, as determined by the patient’s own GP practice or West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS), to address the immediate health needs of those patients who, if not seen promptly, may ultimately be admitted to A & E or other onward referral.
The service aims to:
- Reduce emergency admissions
- Improve patient access
- Release capacity in GP surgeries to enable Doctors to concentrate on planned care
- Achieve better patient satisfaction with home visit assessment, further reducing risk of subsequent admission
The AVS crews are assigned to work across 3 designated localities, starting and finishing the shift at one of the designated sites
