Adding social value to the community around us

Adding social value to the community around us is important to all of us here at Shropdoc.

We aim to do social ‘good’ with our actions as we link with local charities and work to raise awareness and funds for good causes.

But we also aim to add social value every single day; in the way we operate, our employment practices, our environmental footprint and our commercial decisions.

Adding social value

Although our teams make a conscious effort to deliver outcomes that will benefit our patients and the wider community, it was important to us to look internally as a first step, to look at what is important to our staff and what they would like to see in terms of our impact on those around us.

Our Christmas Wish Campaign saw teams across Shropshire and Powys sharing with us the charitable causes and projects that they would like us to contribute to - from animal shelters to initiatives working with the homeless.

And our Shropdoc Shufflers, made up of staff from across the organisation who like to get out and about each month for walks or ‘shuffles’ have launched a 2023 line-up that is accessible to all and welcomes families and dogs along as well.

Meeting the needs of the community

Externally, we launched our CHECK campaign in December 2022, to support the health and wellbeing of the community across Shropshire and Powys by working to encourage people to check on others and provide help and support where it is needed.

We also signed the Armed Forces Covenant to signal that we, as an organisation, commit to upholding the Armed Forces Covenant and supporting the Armed Forces Community.

Environmental impact

And we are also working on our environmental impact. Social value has many definitions, but having a positive impact and making a change is our aim.

Our work to ensure we have better, brighter lighting that switches off when rooms aren’t being used and allows individual work areas to be dimmed to suit staff preferences is part of the efforts to meet our aim
