World Patient Safety Day 2025: Putting children at the heart of safer care
World Patient Safety Day 2025 will focus on safeguarding the youngest members of society by encouraging clinicians to improve clinical standards for every newborn and child and help to ensure safe, high-quality care from the very beginning of life.
What is World Patient Safety Day?
The day, marked globally on the 17th of September, was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a call for global solidarity and coordinated action to improve patient safety. It encourages health services, professionals, and communities around the world to work together to reduce avoidable harm in healthcare settings.
The role of Shropdoc
At Shropdoc, we are proud to support this vital message. As a not-for-profit out-of-hours urgent care provider for communities across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Powys, we care for patients when their GP surgery is closed. We provide support for people of all ages, including some of the most vulnerable in society - young children and their families.
We are proud to be rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), a reflection of our ongoing commitment to delivering safe and effective care. Supporting the development of our staff is key to ensuring we provide the right care, at the right time, in the right way.
Empowering Families
Karen Urbicki, Shropdoc’s Head of Clinical Quality and Compliance, commented:
“Shropdoc understands the importance of empowering families and children to be involved in decisions about their health. It’s vital that clinicians work to reduce preventable harm caused by delays in diagnosis, infections, and medication errors. These issues can lead to unnecessary anxiety and delayed treatment. That’s why we remain committed to continuous learning and maintaining a culture of safety across all areas of our service.”
Shropdoc Values
At Shropdoc, our values - Kindness, Development, Integrity, Community, and Quality - are central to everything we do. These guide our approach to care and ensure that patient safety remains a top priority for every individual we support.
