Shropdoc Bed Push to Raise Funds for Macmillan Cancer Support

The event on 20 June will see the Shropdoc team push a bed, which has been donated by Shrewsbury’s discount furniture store Clearance Factors, along a four mile route from the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital to Shropdoc headquarters in Harlescott.

It is the first time that Shropdoc has organised a bed push and staff have enjoyed getting behind the fundraiser. The bed push will start at 6pm and the team will travel along Copthorne Road, Smithfield Road and St Michael’s Street in a bid to raise at least £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

David Stringfellow, manager of budget furniture, carpet and bed store Clearance Factors which was launched on Ennerdale Road in Harlescott, more than 20 years ago said: “We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful service like Shropdoc here in Shropshire providing urgent medical care for patients. “When we heard that staff were organising a bed push to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support providing a bed for the event seemed like the least we could do to support them in their efforts. “So many people rely on the services of Macmillan Cancer Support and we wish the team at Shropdoc every success in smashing their £1,000 fundraising target.”

Jenni Tait, risk manager with Shropdoc, who is helping to organise the bed push alongside HR manager Debbie Morris, said: “We are extremely grateful to Clearance Factors for the generous donation of the bed to support us in raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. “It is heart warming to have a business make such a generous donation in aid of such a worthy cause.”

Helen Knight, fundraising manager for Macmillan, thanked both the Shropdoc team and staff at Clearance Factors, which stocks end of lines and discontinued stock from furniture manufacturers, for their support. Clearance Factors is popular with couples moving into their first home together on a budget, students in university and people wanting quick delivery. She said: “Every penny makes a difference to someone somewhere in Shropshire. “But donations such as the bed are equally important as without them the fundraising events couldn’t take place.

Staff at Clearance Factors are long time supporters of Macmillan and we are extremely grateful for their dedication to our charity “I am sure the Shropdoc staff will have lots of fun during the bed push and I’d urge people to turn out to encourage them along the route and help fill their fundraising buckets.” Shropdoc provides urgent care for patients across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Powys when GP surgeries are closed. They also provide a 24/7 Oncology helpline for patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment at hospitals in Telford and Shrewsbury.

Shropdoc staff have nominated Macmillan as it’s charity of the year and this is the first major fundraising event. Further fundraising events will continue throughout the year.
