Powys Community Hall Receives Shropdoc Defibrillator

Around 1000 people in a small Powys village now have access to a defibrillator thanks to out of hours provider Shropdoc. Bronllys is a village at the foot of the Black Mountains between Brecon and Talgarth and a fifth of the population of around 1000 are aged between 60 and 80 years.

The community hall within the village is used by residents, the local school, groups, meetings and celebrations – and now will be the home of a defibrillator. Allan Lowe, chairman of the Royston Memorial Community Hall, accepted the defibrillator from Chris Jones, acting on behalf of Ian Winstanley, chief executive of Shropshire Doctors. He said: “This equipment is a life-saver and is a welcome addition to first aid facilities at the hall. “We thank Shropshire Doctors for the donation.”

The defibrillator will be located in the Royston Hall for the use of the community in Bronllys and the surrounding area.

Shropdoc, which provides GP out of hours and other NHS services, recently carried out a scheduled replacement of equipment at Primary Care Centres.

Mr Winstanley said:

“We are delighted to support the Bronllys community. A spare machine was available due to a scheduled replacement of our equipment at Shropdoc Primary care Centres. Those defibrillators being still in perfect working condition and as an organisation we felt that providing lifesaving equipment to the community we serve was a demonstration of the values we promote as a Social Enterprise. We believe that the increased availability of defibrillators and an easier access to them in situations of need can only contribute to saving more lives.”

Shropdoc provides urgent GP services when your surgery is closed.
