An oarsome task for Shropdoc boaters

Shropdoc team members are heading to the River Severn once again to take their seats in a Dragon Boat and raise money for the Severn Hospice.

On July 21st, 16 rowers and a drummer will take to the water in a bid to be crowned Dragonboat Race winners in the annual charity fundraiser run by the hospice.

River race

Employees and supporters are already in training for the big row, which will see them race a 40ft Dragon Boat along the river from the Pengwern Boat Club in Shrewsbury.

Team Shropdoc is not new to the charity event - they came in 7th place in 2023 while dressed as convicts and rowing to a drum beaten by Paddington Bear and also took part in the event in 2022. This year, the team has selected a despicably Gru-vy theme… we think the costumes are one in a minion!

Charity Fundraising

With 17 teams in the running, the Shropdoc Severns of 2023 were very happy with their 7th place and a top time of 1.12.16.

Dr Simon Chapple said: “We really enjoyed taking part in the Severn Hospice Dragonboat Race for the second year in a row and are delighted to be heading back to the river in 2024.

“Our Shropdoc Severns are always exceptional this year and we are hoping we may be able to creep up the leaderboard!”

Severn Hospice

As an organisation, Shropdoc works closely with the Severn Hospice and our teams see first-hand how impactful and important its work is.

The Severn Hospice provides specialist care and emotional support for families in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Mid Wales living with an incurable illness.

All of their care is provided for free, but they need to raise £2 for every £3 they spend - fundraising is vital for the continuation of the service.
