GP Workforce Development Workshop Event

An NHS England GP Workforce Development Workshop facilitated by Shropdoc was recently held at Shrewsbury Football Ground.

With pressures on General Practice increasing due to rising workload exceeding capacity, the workshop aimed to showcase new roles such as Physician Associates, Urgent Care Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists and Care Navigators as well as promoting Apprenticeship and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.  Delegates were able to speak to people working in these roles in general practice and were provided with information about how these roles could form part of a mixed-skilled team to address shortages of GP’s and Practice Nurses.  Furthermore, they demonstrated how they could contribute to greatly releasing GP time.

The event was well attended by over 100 Practice managers and GP’s across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Sara Edwards, CEPN Project Manager for Shropdoc said, ‘It was great to have the NHS event in our area and to have so many GP’s attending.   Delegates found it really useful as they were able to chat to the practitioners and ask questions about their role.  Shane North, Shropdoc's Head of Urgent Care Practitioner Development in Powys, did a sterling job of explaining how a UCP could help practices deliver their service and free up GP time.  The event really gave practices food for thought around different workforce models and redirecting workflow at a significant time when the pressures from increased service demand against shortages of GPs and Practice Nurses is being felt.’
