Charity baking... and a special guest

Supporting the community is a large part of what we do at Shropdoc, so when we announced we were once again hosting a Macmillan coffee morning, the bakers in our team immediately stepped up!

And thanks to their efforts, the work of the coffee morning organisers and our special guest Montgomery Town Crier Sue Blower, we raised a fantastic £177.50 to help support people affected by cancer.

Shropdoc Best Bake

Sue arrived at the Shropdoc offices in Shrewsbury bright and early to taste the array of bakes on display and announce the winner of the Shropdoc Best Bake Competition - which for 2024 went to Chrissla Davies for her cupcakes! Second place was Katie Sadler and third place was Rachel Beach.

Sue said: “What a privilege and a pleasure it was to spend time with the team at Shropdoc, a service we are so lucky to have with the team so dedicated and committed to their jobs.

“I have been on the other end with people in help centres so many times and meeting everyone, I can see why there is such a positive feeling at Shropdoc - I was thrilled to be part of this Macmillan coffee morning event.

“I tasted some beautiful cakes, and I very much appreciated being part of the day.”

Supporting those affected by cancer

As a business, we’re always looking for ways to give back, but this cause felt particularly close to home. Our teams work very closely with people who have been affected by cancer and their families, and the work that Macmillan Cancer Support does - from providing nursing care to offering emotional and financial advice - can be truly life-changing for those facing the difficulties of a cancer diagnosis.

Macmillan Cancer Support

At the end of the morning, we counted up our donations, and we were absolutely delighted to see that we had raised more than £170!

Here’s a quick breakdown of what donations can achieve for Macmillan:

  • Pay for nursing care, providing vital support for people during their cancer treatment.

  • Fund support groups for patients and families, offering a space to talk and share experiences.

  • Contribute towards financial advice sessions, helping families navigate the challenges of lost income or increased costs due to a cancer diagnosis.

Knowing that our efforts could make a big difference really made the whole experience rewarding for everyone involved.

Thank you

Sarah Paine, HR Business Partner at Shropdoc, said: “We would like to thank everyone who participated in the event, including those who worked hard baking for the event or purchased shop-bought cakes to sell during the day, everyone who helped run the event and also those who generously donated money towards this worthy cause - we were all able to have lots of fun whilst also raising money for Macmillan.

“The Cake and Bake table located in the stairwell of Unit A Longbow proved to be a huge success, as was the ‘Treat Trolley’, with staff being personally waited on by myself and Debbie, our Head of HR. However, it was Sue Blower’s attendance as guest judge, judging with such dedication, energy and humour, that proved the ‘icing on the cake’ for many staff.”
