Celebrating World Hospice and Palliative Care Day
Every year on the second Saturday in October, people around the world come together to celebrate World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.
This unified global event raises awareness, recognises the compassionate work of palliative care providers, and advocates for improved access to high-quality end-of-life care.
This year’s theme, ‘Achieving the Promise: Universal Access to Palliative Care,’ builds on a decade since the World Health Assembly’s landmark resolution, which urged countries to integrate palliative care as a core component of health systems.
Now, the global palliative care community is striving to fulfil that promise.
Our Commitment at Shropdoc
At Shropdoc, we are proud to support this goal every day through our close partnership working with local healthcare teams and hospices, such as Severn Hospice. Our service offers urgent clinical support for patients nearing the end of life, ensuring they receive safe, timely, and appropriate care - wherever they are.
We understand that people with life-limiting illnesses often wish to remain at home in familiar surroundings, especially in their final days. Our clinicians are trained to support these wishes by providing patient-centred care.
Working with local healthcare providers
Together, with other local healthcare providers, we deliver coordinated, round-the-clock emergency care for patients in the final stages of life. This partnership ensures that patients, families, and carers have access to expert support outside of regular healthcare hours - whenever it’s needed most.
By working closely with other healthcare providers, we contribute to a broader network of support that enables patients to receive high-quality care at home or in hospice settings, even during crises or unexpected events.
Putting people at the centre
We know that good palliative care is not just about extending life, but about improving the quality of the life that remains.
In line with this year’s global theme, we’re committed to playing our part in making universal access to palliative care a reality. We believe that everyone - regardless of location, condition, or circumstance - deserves compassionate care that upholds their dignity and values.
