Armed Forces Day 2024

Celebrations will fill Shropshire and Powys this weekend (June 29th/30) to mark Armed Forces Day.

Armed Forces Day is dedicated to honouring and recognising the men and women who serve in the military.

Observed annually, it celebrates all branches of the armed forces and the day is marked by parades, ceremonies, and public events that highlight the contributions and sacrifices of military personnel. It serves to foster a deeper appreciation for the military's role in maintaining national security and supporting global peace and stability.

Shropdoc has signed the Armed Forces Covenant as part of our commitment to the Armed Forces community. Under that covenant, we aim to promote Armed Forces activities and encourage community involvement.

And this weekend there are plenty of opportunities to show your support!

Showcase in Shrewsbury

On June 29th, Shrewsbury will come alive with a vibrant showcase. The event, to be held at Shrewsbury Castle, promises to be a day filled with activities, demonstrations, and entertainment for all ages. Whether you're a child, a parent, a grandparent, or a community member, there's something for everyone.

A number of service charities and local businesses will be present with gazebos, each highlighting the various ways they offer support to the Armed Forces. This event is not just about fun and entertainment, it's also a unique opportunity to connect with these incredible organisations, whether you're seeking resources and information, or simply looking to show your support.

Visitors will also enjoy free access to the historic Shrewsbury Castle and there will be a range of children's activities to keep the little ones entertained. Refreshments will be available throughout the event, making it easy to stay energised and enjoy the festivities.

The day will also feature appearances by the local police and fire departments, musical entertainment will be provided by Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir and the lively cadet band, adding a joyful and patriotic soundtrack.

With so much to see and do, this event promises to be a memorable celebration of the Armed Forces and the community's support for them.

Fun times in Telford

And on Sunday, June 30th, more celebrations will fill Broadoaks Playing Field in Donnington, Telford.

A free Armed Forces Family Fun Day will be held from 11am to 4pm packed with activities and entertainment for the whole family, including face painting, arts and crafts, and various sports.

The event will also feature representatives from the local cadets, military, and veterans, offering a unique opportunity to meet these inspiring individuals. Military charity stands will provide information and support, and attendees can learn more about the Armed Forces Covenant.

In addition to the activities, there will be entertainment, walkabouts and food and drink stalls.

Armed Forces Day

We look forward to our staff and teams supporting these events, which not only pay tribute to our Armed Forces but also strengthen our community's connection to those who serve.
