2012 Award to Dr Ian Russell of Welshpool Medical Practice
Shropdoc announces Dr Ian Russell, of Welshpool Medical Practice, as the 2012 winner of the Dr Steve Hugh Award for Excellence in Primary Care.
Dr Russell has been providing emergency services to local patients for over 15 years as part of ‘MEDs’ (Montgomery Emergency Doctors,) a voluntary organisation registered as a charity to provide skilled medical help at the scene of an accident, medical emergency or during transport to hospital. Formed in 1999 it provides help within Montgomery and the border areas of Shropshire. MEDs supports the ambulance service and can be called upon 24hrs a day, 365 days a year.
Dr Russell also promotes pre-hospital training and has been involved with training doctors, nurses, paramedics and the local community teaching first aid skills.
As part of the award, £500 has been donated to the Heulwen Trust who organise canal boat trips for disabled children.
Dr Russell is the 7th recipient of the award, set up in memory of Dr Hugh who, as Shropdoc’s Medical Director for many years, championed their ethos of high quality care for patients.
