2011 Award for Quality in Primary Care

Shropdoc is proud to announce that the 2011 Dr Steve Hugh Award for Quality in Primary Care has been presented to Sister Val Proctor and her team at the Benign Prostate Symptom Assessment Clinic in Ludlow. Prostate health is an increasing problem in the ageing male population and whilst prostate cancer awareness is growing there are a significant number of older men whose quality of life is affected by non-malignant prostate problems too.

Val and her colleagues provide a local examination service which links with the Urology consultant at Shrewsbury hospital to provide first class quality care without the need to travel. The service provides quick, accurate assessment and utilises the internet to ensure that rurality does not affect patients ability to access the services they need.

Shropdoc has been highlighting and celebrating these success stories since 2006 and on this occasion the cash award has been donated to the Shropshire Prostate Cancer Support Group.
