The annual Shropdoc “Steve Hugh” award for 2010 has been awarded to Jessie Bergstrom-Mann and the district nursing team for the setting up and running of the Llandrindod Wells Leg Club.
The Leg Club meets every Thursday morning at St. John’s Hall in Llandrindod Wells and has over 340 patients on its register. The club is run entirely on a voluntary basis and has a large band of volunteers who meet and greet patients as well as serving teas/coffees and undertaking fundraising events to fund the club.
The nursing team are currently seeing over 30 patients per week for both treatment and assessment. They deal with all aspects of leg care from arterial and venous disease including Doppler assessments. They also see diabetic foot ulcers and lymphoedema patients.
Jessie Bergstrom-Mann, district nurse team leader, has also undertaken the Independent Prescribing course and is able to prescribe and help reduce unnecessary patient trips to their GP. The whole team are a dedicated, hard working group who work tirelessly both professionally and voluntarily to ensure the smooth running of the club.
